Details

Sheshnag lake is one of the oligotrophic alpine lakes in Kashmir. Sheshnag lake has religious importance as well. Sheshnag translates to ”King of Snakes”. It is a type of lake where the productivity of algae is very low. Because of this, the water is very clean and clear. Kunyirhayan, a group of three mountain peaks standing tall at 16,850 ft, 16,570 ft and 16,310 ft surrounds Sheshnag lake. Glaciers of these mountains are the primary source of Sheshnag lake.

In summer the best months to visit are from May to October. Though Sheshnag lake is the main attraction of this trek, the variety in the trail makes the whole trek equally exciting. It takes you through well marked trails, man-made stairs, steep ascents and beautiful meadows.
